Milk is one of the most popular foods in our diet, but currently has met so many allies and detractors of consumption, therefore, today we tell myths and facts about milk.
Here we show some statements that we often hear about milk and tell you whether it is myth or truth.
It helps take care of our bones
For its content quality protein and calcium, always associated to milk to better bone health , however, research published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research indicates that they have not found evidence sufficient to show that the consumption of milk helps reduce the risk of fractures.
By contrast, scientists at Uppsala University have found that drinking more than three glasses of milk a day is associated with increased incidence of fractures and a higher mortality compared to those who consume lower amounts.
However, a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded that non-consumption of cow’s milk in children is linked to low bone density and short stature.
As you can see, this statement is still controversial; however we can say that although milk cannot be linked to better bone health, for their nutrients, could be helpful, along with other factors, for the care of bones and teeth.

Milk consumption produces snot
It is one of the statements used as a basis for rejecting their consumption, believing that milk intake favors the production of mucus in the airways.
However, a review by scientists from Zurich says that this statement cannot be confirmed, because even people inoculated with the virus of the common cold milk did not encourage mucus production and also exacerbated asthma symptoms and was associated with development.
Also, a scientific article notes that while there may be increased mucus production in susceptible people, even nothing can be confirmed so it is only a hypothesis.
Therefore, in this case we are rather to a myth and not to a truth scientifically proven.
Raises cholesterol and can harm health
For a long time it was thought that the milk, contain animal fats and cholesterol, could harm health by increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
However, cholesterol is so harmful to the heart and milk fats have the effect than previously thought.

In addition, a study published in the journal Diabetes Care has found that dairy intake is associated with lower risk of diabetes type 2.
Similarly, researchers at the University of California indicate that milk consumption is inversely associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease and study Journal of Nutrition was observed relationship between milk intake and body weight.
Therefore, this is another affirmation that cannot be proven scientifically and think that milk raises cholesterol and cardiovascular health harms and / or metabolic is mostly a myth that we must abandon.
Clearly, there is nothing bad or magical about milk consumption because neither health nor harm the benefits miraculously, but their intake as part of a balanced diet in adequate amounts, is well recommended.
